Casting Off On A High Performance Journey


In this introductory blog, I'll be sharing a little bit about myself, my journey, and what you can expect from working with me and my team.  Let's map out your High Performance Journey together.

A BIT ABOUT MY BACKGROUND

I've spent most of my life in demanding and high stakes environments, where success relied on performing when it really mattered.  I’ve served in the Military as a combat pilot and senior leader, competed in ultra-marathons, and rowed across the Atlantic Ocean for charity.  These experiences given me unique insights to what it takes to develop and maintain high performance, even in the face of adversity.

Here's a quick snapshot of my journey:

Military Service (Royal Air Force):

I served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force for 20 years, in career that evolved from leading combat mission on the battlefield, through to designing and implementing global strategy for Defence as a senior leader.  This experience taught me about the critical importance of leadership, teamwork, discipline and resilience.  The military invests in world-class training for its people, recognising that high consequence situations - where failure isn’t an option - demand high performance.  The principle that ‘investing in your people is the best investment you can make’ now underpins my approach.

Endurance Athlete:

I'm an endurance sport junkie, who's completed dozens of ultra-marathons and extreme adventures, including rowing unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean.  My passion for endurance sport has given me a deep understanding of resilience, purpose and high performance. Endurance challenges have also equipped me with powerful lessons and performance tools which are highly transferrable to the working environment.

Giving Back:

Supporting my daughter through her battle with leukaemia was a life-changing experience.  Thankfully, it was a happy outcome!  However, the transformative experience taught me about vulnerability and the importance of a support network, it also gave me a new ‘Purpose’ - giving back to the community.  Inspired by my heroic daughter, I now use my love of extreme sports and adventures to raise money for children’s cancer charities. This formative chapter in my life has demonstrated the importance of a powerful vision, a clear purpose, and the need to build a resilient support network.
